World Market Minnesota Update

Monday, 19 Jan 2009

Here’s a quick update to my post from earlier this week, Spice Bonanza, Sauce Blowout at Doomed World Market. I stopped by the liquidation-in-progress at the Roseville World Market location and this time didn’t miss the separate entrance to the wine shop.  Unfortunately, the wine is not on sale yet, but wine accessories like openers, foil cutters and coasters aer 10% off.  The wine shop is no longer getting new inventory in, so what you see is what you get.   The guy working there said the wine might go on sale during the last 2-3 weeks of the store’s liquidation, depending on how much inventory they had left, but that the selection probably wouldn’t be too great by then.

Since I was there anyway, I took the opportunity to stock up on a few inexpensive bottles of red:

Big Tattoo Red Cabernet-Syrah 2006, $9.99

Palacios Remondo 2006 La Vendimia Rioja, $11.99 (88 points from Wine Enthusiast)

Cameron Hughes Lot 79 2005 Napa Merlot,$11.99

337 Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, $13.99

Francis Coppola Diamond Alicante Bouschet 2007, $15.99 (interesting grape I hadn’t tried before)

As far as I can tell, these are pretty good prices for these wine, particularly since none of them were marked down.  For example, Coppola sells the Alicante Bouschet on their website for $19.00.  We’ll see how it goes with these bottles.  The Big Tattoo Red I’ve had before and can vouch for — it’s a good bottle for the price.

After I bought the wine, I went into the main World Market store to see how their Total Inventory Blowout is progressing.  They had restocked the shelves in the gourmet food section since earlier in the week, so there was still plenty to choose from.  Furniture had been marked way down starting at 20% and more.  I thought about picking up a few more food items to stock my pantry, but the checkout line was 25 people long, so I just got out of there!
