Chocolate Chip CookiesThis is my sister Margaret’s chocolate chip cookie recipe and it’s the best one I know of.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

½ cup butter (1 stick)
½ cup sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1 cup flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Cream together butter, sugar, brown sugar, egg and vanilla. Mix until there are no lumps. Add flour, baking soda and salt and stir until well-mixed. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop one-inch balls of dough from a spoon onto cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes, maybe a little less if it’s the second batch. This recipe makes approximately 24 cookies.

Tip: If you have trouble with the cookies turning out too flat, try substituting ¼ cup shortening for ¼ cup of the butter, or substitute the whole amount. Using butter gives the cookies a great flavor, though.
